Three Oaks Engineering, a leading Durham, North Carolina-based engineering firm, announced today that environmental services firm The Catena Group has joined the woman-owned company, making Three Oaks one of the largest natural resource consultants in North Carolina.

The move allows Three Oaks clients throughout the Carolinas to call upon Catena’s corps of biologists for a broad range of environmental work, including specialized threatened and endangered species surveys, ecological/habitat evaluations, wetland and stream delineations, and environmental permitting.

Catena founder and president Michael Wood will become a Principal at Three Oaks and continue to run the firm’s Hillsborough, North Carolina office.  With more than 25 years of public and private sector experience, Wood has developed a reputation for working with clients and regulatory agencies on environmental permitting issues.  His team is renowned for its aquatic work, including hundreds of surveys for federally-protected freshwater mussels.

“It’s an exciting day at Three Oaks, both for our staff and our clients,” said Three Oaks president Suzanne Unger Young.  “Three Oaks and Catena share a strong commitment to sustainability. We have a common vision and shared values that focus on delivering superior client service, while simultaneously recognizing that our employees are our greatest asset.”

Wood, who founded Catena in 2002, added, “We look forward to providing our combined suite of services to clients in both North and South Carolina.  This venture creates an even stronger company that can continue to be relied upon to deliver services of the highest quality for years to come.”
